The Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly awards took place last night with some notable winners. Here are some of the highlights from the award ceremony.
Your winner is… U.S Women’s National team, soccer
The women’s team dominated the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this year and won it all after defeating the Netherlands 2-0. This is the fourth championship the women’s national soccer team has won in history.
Best Female Athlete:
Your winner is…Alex Morgan, U.S Women National soccer team
To go along with the Best Team award, forward Alex Morgan plays for the Orlando Pride and the U.S Women’s National team. She had great stats during the Women’s World Cup run, she scored 6 goals in the 6 games she played. Five of which were scored in the first game against Thailand.
Best Male Athlete:
Your winner is…Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks, NBA
The 6-11, 242 lb forward also knows as ‘The Greek Freak’ had a stellar season averaging 27.7 points per game, 12.5 total rebounds per game and was 57.8 field goal percentage. The Milwaukee Bucks made an impressive playoff run but lost in a 2-4 series to the NBA Champion Toronto Raptors.
Best College Athlete:
Your winner is…Zion Williamson, Duke men’s basketball
This shouldn’t come to any shock but now NBA player for the New Orleans Pelicans, Zion Williamson had an incredible year at Duke before going pro. Williamson averaged 22.6 points per game, 8.9 total rebounds and was 68% from the field.
Best Breakthrough Athlete:
Your winner is…Saquon Barkley, New York Giants, NFL
Saquon Barkley is a beast of a running back for the New York Giants, racking up 1,307 yards, 11 touchdowns, 91 total receptions and 721 yards receiving.
Pat Tillman Award for Service:
Your winner is… U.S. Marine Sgt. Kirstie Ennis.
Phoenix’s own Diana Taurasi was nominated for best WNBA Player. Ultimately, Breanna Stewart, Seattle Storm forward, took home the award.
