Woman in China Pays $1,500 for Her Cat’s Plastic Surgery

A pet owner in Nanjing, China thought her cat’s eyes were “too ugly” so she payed 10,000 yuan ($1,500) for plastic surgery, according to Shanghaiist.

The procedure, formally known as blepharoplasty, is an eyelid operation that adds a crease to the eyelids. After the surgery, a local TV station shared a video of the cat recovering with red swollen eyes.

Although many are shocked to hear the news, the surgery is actually pretty common for dogs who compete in dog shows in Asia.

Social media users suggested the owner of the cat was guilty of torture and the procedure was unnecessary and cruel.

The veterinarian who performed the surgery at Rupeng Pet Hospital revealed that despite the procedure being common, there is a health risk and it can cause discomfort.
