Parents always say they will do anything for their kids, but this mom actually does.
Cecile Eledge, a 61-year-old Nebraska native, gave birth to her own grandchild. At first read you might be a little confused, so let me break it down for you.
Cecile has a child named Matthew Eledge and he was in a sort of predicament. He is in a same-sex relationship and he and his partner, Elliot Dougherty, wanted to have a child.
It all began as a joke when the mother offered to carry the child. Then it all came to fruition when Elliot’s sister, Lea Yribe, agreed to donate her eggs.
Doctors inseminated Matthew’s sperm with Elliot’s sister’s eggs. After one embryo transfer, Cecile became pregnant.
Most women reach menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, and Cecile was 60-years-old at the beginning of the process, about 10 years past menopause.
On Monday, she delivered her healthy granddaughter, Uma Louise, at the Nebraska Medical Center.
“As gay men, we’re so lucky to be having children at a time when people are actually celebratory of our relationship and of us being parents, and also at a time when technology allows us to have this baby, with some of Elliot’s genetic material and some of my genetic material,” Matthew said in an interview with the New York Post.
Well, holy smokes, y’all. Little tiny Uma Louise has ventured into this world and let me tell you, she is simply perfect. Carried and birthed by her 61 year old Grandmother, and created by her two Dads and loving Aunt, Uma is surrounded by an immense amount of love. Being a part of today was amazing. Cele, you are a warrior. @matt_eledge + @ephemeral.elliot, you’re already the best Dads. Can’t wait to watch you all grow. ♥️ P.S., EVERYONE TAG @theellenshow. Y’all know she’d love this.
