Subway $5 Footlongs Could Be No More

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – It may be the end of an era at your local Subway restaurant.

Company CEO Trevor Haynes told USA Today that starting this month, each franchisee will be allowed to decided whether or not to sell the famous sandwich deal known as the $5 footlong.

USA Today reports that when the $5 deal was brought back last winter, many franchisees were “irate,” complaining of slim margins earned off the sandwich deal.

The company’s restaurants are 100 percent franchised, so Haynes said the company listened to the complaints.

There are new things in the works, however, such as Subway experimenting with paninis in California markets.
