Phone scammers are back at it again in Maricopa County.
Maricopa County residents are a recent target for phone scammers, and they need to be aware! Scammers are focusing their efforts on retirement communities and are taking advantage of the elderly saying they are calling from the IRS. Scammers then inform residents they are behind on their taxes and instruct them to withdraw money from their account in the form of a gift card. The Maricopa County Sheriffs Office would like residents to know that both the MCSO and IRS do not contact residents by phone requesting payment by gift card and that if they receive a call like this, they should report it to the sheriff’s office immediately. Fourteen reports of phone scam calls have been reported in April alone.
