WARNING: immediate spoilers ahead.
(Seriously, turn back if you haven’t watched.)
(Okay, here we go!)
Jason Blossom is the Gargoyle King, Jughead dug to exhume his body and the casket was empty, Betty finds out that The Farm is harvesting organs and Archie is boxing (#typical).
Chapter Fifty-Six: The Dark Secret of Harvest House reveals the two major secrets of season three. The heart-pounding episode sets Betty Cooper inside The Farm’s walls, as she encounters Edgar Evernever firsthand.
After hearing about how her mom, Alice Cooper, Cheryl Blossom and others have been reunited with people of their past at The Farm, Betty is set in the same room only to meet her darker self in what is later revealed as hypnosis on Edgar’s part.
Once the fog of hypnotherapy fade, Betty puts on her Nancy Drew hat and quickly learns that The Farm is being used an organ farm to harvest a kidney for Edgar’s wife/daughter Evelyn Evernever, who is currently on dialysis.
Of course, Betty tries to escape but ends up being captured and we end the episode with her in the surgical chair, a blood-covered Edgar prepping for surgery.
Back in Riverdale, Jughead is once again in the midst of a quest, except this time, he nears closer to the Gargoyle King’s inner circle. On this quest, he runs into Ethel, who admits that she knows the real identity of the king.
But nothing comes easy for Juggy, he must save one more lost boy scout. Jughead, Ethel and the lost boy encounter The Black Hood. It’s also revealed in this episode that Hal Cooper cut off his own hand to fake his death, meaning The Black Hood is at large and in charge.
Jughead rescues Ethel and the scout, and Ethel tells him the true identity of the Gargoyle King, Jason Blossom. Jason’s death was the big mystery of season one, with it being revealed that his own father pulled the trigger, ending his life.
Like any good journalist should do, Jughead went to check if Jason was really dead, digging up his grave (This was sarcasm. Don’t EVER dig up a grave. It’s bad juju and highly illegal.) After making his way down to the casket, Jughead opens it to find an empty casket.
Meanwhile, royal baby inspiration (unconfirmed) Archie Andrews and Veronica Lodge have teamed up to take down Hiram Lodge, who is trying to literally buy Riverdale. Veronica learns that her speakeasy and Archie’s gym both still belong to Hiram, and plan to stage highly illegal activities to put him behind bars.
At Le Bonne Nuit, Veronica hosts a super duper illegal casino, and Archie challenges Hiram to a boxing match, with the end goal being to distract Hiram while his Riverdale Empire falls to federal agents.
The boxing match turns ugly, as Hiram defeats Archie in the ring. Just as he wins, police storm in, and Sheriff FP Jones arrests Hiram, but not before Hiram gives a chilling “you betrayed me” response to daughter Veronica.
Phew. So that’s basically it. Not much happened. Tune in next week at 7 p.m. for the next episode of Riverdale.
