Over 40 million Consumer-Grade Fire Extinguishers Recalled

What you need to know after a massive recall of consumer-grade Kidde fire extinguishers.

Over 40 million fire extinguishers were recalled for failing to release retardant. The recall includes 134 models purchased over the past 40 years. If you own a Kidde fire extinguisher, find the model number on the extinguisher’s label then see if it’s listed on Kidde’s website. If your fire extinguisher was recalled, contact Kidde immediately for a free replacement fire extinguisher.

Still, Kerry Swick, Scottsdale Fire Division Chief, says fire extinguishers can create a false sense of security. He recommends
checking that your fire extinguisher is ready in an accessible place just as you would check smoke alarm batteries.
