Maricopa County ranked first in 2016 highest U.S. population growth.
In the latest U.S. Census Bureau population estimates, Maricopa County is taking the cake for the nation’s highest annual population growth. Last year, Maricopa County added nearly 222 people per day bringing the yearly population gain to 81,360 people. Maricopa County knocked off eight-year front runner Harris County, Texas for the top spot in this year’s rankings. Harris County came in second gaining only 155 people per day on average. According to the census, the county primarily grew through the 43,189 people that immigrated domestically to the area. About 25,000 additional gains were added as a result of births and deaths.
