Uber offers self-driving cars as an option to riders in the Tempe area.
Uber’s self-driving cars make their way to Tempe after spending five months in Pittsburgh. The technology was originally meant to be tested in California until lawmakers put on the breaks. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey scooped up the opportunity to bring more business to the Valley. Although the vehicles are “self-driving” there is still an operator in the driver’s seat who can take over anytime. The technology is still in development and completely automated cars have a long road ahead.
WAIT… THERE’S MORE
Uber users in the Tempe area can take part in the testing. Use the Uber app to call an UberX and, if available, a self-driving car will pick you up.
