PHOENIX – Due to the premiere of the final season, the Game of Thrones craze has been at an all time high but that could to be bad thing for huskies.
The dog breed is often compared to the direwolves on the show and PETA has noticed an uptick in huskies being abandoned.
Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn, who plays Bronn on the show, has joined PETA’s campaign to end this by raising awareness on the issue.
They believe fans may be emulating their love for the direwolves on the show by rushing to adopt a husky.
Sadly, not everyone understands the responsibilities that come with owning a pet. In fact, the U.K. has noticed a 420 percent increase in homeless huskies and it’s more of the same here in the states. According to PETA, Los Angeles County shelters are taking in triple the number of abandoned huskies.
Other Games of Thrones stars have urged fans to stop adopting huskies. Actor Peter Dinklage teamed up with PETA back in 2017 to raise awareness.
Game of Thrones isn’t the first to spark a dog-buying impulse. Movies like 101 Dalmatians, Legally Blonde, and Marley and Me have sparked similar trends in the past.
