PHOENIX- We’ve all heard or seen the recent trend of zero-waste, reusable items substituted for plastic bags, plastic straws, plastic bottles, etc. but one market in Vancouver, B.C. has taken it to the next step.

At East West Market, they strongly encourage their customers to take advantage of reusable grocery bags, so much so, they are publicly shaming customers who don’t use them.

In 2018, East West Market started charging five cents per plastic bag, as an effort to eliminate plastic waste and encourage their movement, #jointheearthmovement.

To implement their earthly case more so, the market is using this tactic to embarrass customers who don’t have reusable sacks. Their redesigned plastic bags read sayings like, “Into the Weird Adult Video Emporium,” or “The Colon Care Co-Op”.

Would you carry these bags around or take the less-embarassing route and bring your own?
