PHOENIX — It’s been nearly 25 years since the release of The Mask starring Jim Carrey and fans of the original will be excited to know that the creator want’s a reboot – with a female in the title role.
In honor of the upcoming 25th anniversary, Forbes spoke with Mike Richardson, the founder of Dark Horse Comics, to discuss the massive success of The Mask and whether he plans to revisit the story two decades later.
Jim Carrey shot into super stardom after starring as Stanley Ipkiss in the classic 90s comedy which makes it all the more intriguing to find out who would be able to tackle the role. The sequel that followed in 2005, Son of the Mask essentially ended the franchise.
Many fans of the original film don’t know that, The Mask was originally based off a comic series with darker undertones. Richardson plans to expand on the less comedic aspects of the film for a more serious tone, this time around.
