Jay-Z Passes Diddy on Forbes List of Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artists

Jay-Z and Diddy

Rapper Jay-Z has officially knocked Diddy off the top of Forbes’ list of wealthiest hip-hop artists.

Diddy has been at the top of the list since the list started seven years ago.

Jay-Z’s net worth bumped up to $900 million over the last year, while Diddy is still doing just fine at number two on the list with a net worth of $825 million.

So the question is, what bumped Jay-Z’s net worth up from $810 million over the last year?

According to Forbes, it’s mostly due to the rising value of his interests in Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Ussé cognac as well as his stakes in Roc Nation and his Tidal streaming service. Businessman or business man? Wise words from Jay-Z which are becoming truer than ever.

We know number one and two, so who are three, four and five?

Dr. Dre, who is the oldest rapper on the list at 53, has a net worth of $770 million thanks to Apple’s purchase of his Beats headphone line. Depending on the share price of his next round of Beats, he could very well be number one next year.

Drake and Eminem are both tied at a net worth of $100 million. Drake, 31, is the youngest on the list and can thank his ticket sales and interest in a liquor company, Virginia Black Whiskey.

As for Eminem, 45, it’s his first appearance on the list. Although he’s not much of a businessman like the others, he’s still the best-selling rapper of all time and moved more albums in the U.S. during the 2000s than any other hip-hop artist. With his bounce back album, Revival, he’s back on the road and gained a spot on the Forbes Five List. Impressive!

The next question is, who will be the first hip-hop artist to hit a billion? We’ll have to wait and see!
