PHOENIX- Can the Saw movies get any more intense? Comedian Chris Rock says ‘yes.’
Rock is teaming up with Lionsgate to produce a new spin-off for the $1 billion horror franchise that features Jigsaw, an incredibly twisted killer who sets traps for his victims.
The Emmy Award winner came to Lionsgate and pitched his idea for a new film.
The Lionsgate motion picture group chairman, Joe Drake, said in a statement,
“This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous “Saw” films. Chris conceived this idea and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise.”
The film is inspired by Rock’s vision but will be written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, who wrote the screenplay for the most recent Saw movie, Jigsaw. Darren Lynn Bousman, who has directed three of the series’ movies already, will return to direct this new film as well.
Chris Rock is a comedian, actor, producer, and director. He is known for his acting on Saturday Night Live, Grown Ups, and the tv series he developed, wrote and narrated, Everybody Hates Chris.
The movie is set to release Halloween of 2020.
