Amazon Alexa now has its own board game associated with it.
Game manufacturer Sensible Object is behind the new game called When in Rome. It comes with a board, game pieces and cards, but you need Alexa to teach you the rules, keep track of the score and guide you through the entire game.
To start the game, players sit around a world map game board, and each player places their marker on a “home city.” Throughout the game, players will travel around the map to various major cities. Once your marker enters each city, Alexa asks you a question about that city. The questions can be anything along the lines of the city’s weather, food, culture, etc. The questions range from easy to difficult and players earn points by answering the questions correctly.
At the end of the game, the player with the most points wins. There is an interesting twist with the game, you can forego points in favor of action cards, which you can use to sabotage other players in different ways. For example, there’s one card that lets you “Trash Talk.” If you read Alexa the phrase on your card, she will amusingly insult the other players.
When in Rome comes out in the summer for $29.95 and is for ages 5-99. This is the first installment of Voice Originals, which is the company’s upcoming series of voice-augmented board games.
Talk about technology. Playing games with the family just got a whole lot more interesting!
