The CW is making a second attempt to create a series based off of the 1987 movie The Lost Boys after the first pilot is not picked up.

The project has been in the works for years and was approved for a pilot just last season. However, it was not executed as expected and is now being refilmed with a new cast. Only two actors from the first pilot will star in the new attempt.

Though originally starring actors Tyler Posey as Michael, Medalion Rahimi as Stella (a new take on the Star character), Kiele Sanchez as Lucy, and Dakota Shapiro as David, only Shapiro and Rahimi will continue on with the series. The rest of the characters are being recast.

The Lost Boys is set in sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires.

The 1987 comedy-horror movie was directed by Joel Schumacher and follows two brothers, Michael and Sam, as well as their mother Lucy as the family moved to Santa Clara, California. However, it was no ordinary move as the family encounters a gang of vampires.

The character David, the leader of the vampire gang, is played by Keither Sutherland in the movie with Jami Gurtz as Star, a member of David’s gang and Michael’s love interest.

The original pilot was directed by Catherine Hardwicke (director of Twilight) with the script written by Heather Mitchell. According to Deadline, the new pilot should be filmed by the end of the year.
