The #ItWasNeverADress scholarship fund supports girls and women who are interested in learning new technical skills and leveling-up their careers.
“We wanted to make an event that they would enjoy themselves doing something that they like”, said AXOSMASH tournament Organizer, Lauren Witte-Girard.
Axosoft host a double-elimination #AXOSMASH Bros ultimate tournaments to assist towards women in tech. All proceeds benefitting the #Itwasneveradress scholarship fund. Axosoft has raised $4500 to fund tech scholarships for women, in addition to their own contributions, through events like #AXOSMASH.
“It was never a dress really about breaking down the barriers of those boxes, and letting girls know that they can be whatever they want to be”, said Witte-Girard.
The smash idea came together in 2015 to prepare women for the workforce.
“We support a scholarship program for girls who want to enter the tech space, so we just graduated our first three scholarship receipt ants from a nine-month boot camp”, said Witte-Girard.
Girls that are interested in the tech scene can find female mentors through the program.
“Diversity brings more innovative thoughts having everyone’s voice at the table is extremely important”, said Witte-Girard.
