PHOENIX – Standard quizbowl has two teams pitted against each other with a 20 minute timer. The four students on each team try to answer questions that are designed to have harder clues first and end in easier clues. Students can buzz in at any time and the student that buzzes in answers the question. If that student is correct, the team gets a 3-part bonus question. This continues until the 20 minutes is up.
Each quizbowl tournament has a different type of schedule (round robin, brackets, etc) but the end result is always the same: The top 20 percent of the teams who participated qualify for the National Academic Quiz Tournament’s High School National Championship Tournament where more than 300 teams from across the nation and world compete to become the champion.
In Arizona Quizbowl, teams of four students compete in an exciting, televised, four-quarter format where the rules change each round of the game. The questions are shorter for a more fast-paced game, but students still need to bring their A-game for this battle-of-the-brains. While students who are familiar with standard Quizbowl. In Arizona quizbowl rules will understand the tossup-bonus format, even teams with no prior experience will be able to pick up some ‘W’s as they compete in the Buzz-In round, the Bounceback round, the Lightning round, and the Final round.
The schedule for season two is set! Game one will play out on October 21, 2018 on Your Phoenix CW at 7pm. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday May 19th, 2019.
