Steve Albert is putting his microphone up and retiring, leaving the Phoenix Suns and his award-winning 45-year broadcasting career behind.
For the past five seasons, he has been the voice for the Suns, but before, Albert worked for the New Jersey Nets, Golden State Warriors, New Orleans Hornets, New York Jets, and New Jersey Devils among many other teams. He has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame, won the Sam Taub Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, and has been named Announcer of the Year by the International Boxing Federation twice. Although he’s not sure exactly what he’ll do now, he wants to pursue other interest and do things with family and friends that couldn’t happen with his work schedule, and also eventually write a book.
