THE DOWNLOAD
A study from the Center for Financial Services Innovation says that about half of Americans are spending their full income or more. The reason behind this debt is not that people are overspending, but that the costs of living are going up while income remains the same and having an irregular income in quite common. An irregular, or volatile, income is a problem that affects 40 percent of those who spend their whole paycheck. These issues are very structural, however, and it will take changes in American policy to fix them. Without these changes, Americans will continue to be stressed, as 96 percent of those with debt are, and this will lead to an increase in negative health effects.
