The Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix is ranked one of the most spectacular theaters in the U.S.
Curbed ranked 21 ‘theaters’, including auditoriums, performing arts centers, and concert halls. These places were ranked for their architectural significance and includes Radio City Music Hall, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Orpheum Theater was listed for its 1,364-seat capacity, and Spanish Baroque-style building. It’s also one of the oldest on the list, being built in 1929, and it’s most recent $14 million restoration taking place in 1997. Murals are painted throughout the theater that aim to give visitors the impression they are enjoying performances al fresco. The theatre not only hosts plays, but also live music, dance and comedy.
