Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel gave thanks to Arizona Senator John McCain for being a hero.

McCain announced in a statement Friday morning he could not “in good conscience” back a bill that impacts so many lives without using a bipartisan approach. The Arizona senator took to Twitter his position on recent efforts on health care reform.

So what does this mean? McCain voting against the Graham-Cassidy proposal means that Republicans might have less of a chance to repeal and replace Obamacare before the September 30 deadline, set by President Trump. In order for Republicans to pass this measure, they must first get at least 50 votes for the process of reconciliation.

McCain was one of the three most-watched members of the Senate. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says he does not back the repeal, and Sen. Susan Collins of Main says she is leaning towards “no.”
