All Churros, All The Time

Churro Cafe Opens in Gilbert

PHOENIX -

What do you do when you’re craving a churro? You don’t have to go on a hunt for Oreo churros in your grocery store’s frozen section anymore. I heard people do that. You go to Dulce Churro Cafe in Gilbert, because not only are the churros the perfect balance of crispy and chewy, the owner Jared Naumann got certified in Spain to make them that way. Jared took a class, got a certificate, the whole thing. So before even stepping in the doors, you know these aren’t your average mass-produced churros.

The churros are made from scratch from start to finish. The dough which has to be exactly right down to every last gram of flour and ounce of boiling hot water is kneaded by hand (ouch). Then they hit the frier for three minutes (it’s a surprisingly slow process) and finally they're coated in cinnamon sugar. From there it’s up to you what toppings and fillings to add (I’d recommend the dulce de leche).

Believe it or not, churros are a breakfast item in Spain. Whatever kind of churro you’re craving, Dulce Churro Cafe will make it for you fresh Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m..
